WOMANIFESTO

a film project on female artists’ voices now 

Attempting to highlight the feminine artistic voice of today we invited female creators to write and present their own manifesto, giving them the space to raise their voices for one minute and shine their own light in answer to the challenges of our times. Stepping away from the mainstream interpretation of current affairs, the first film-manifesto enables women from a wide age range and various nationalities to express their artistic voice, manifesting their passion for the present and galvanizing the dialogue between women and the arts.

The WOMANIFESTO project started its maiden film production at the Greenhouse of Ornamental Plants of the Agricultural University of Athens, initially with fifteen female creatives, as WOMANIFESTO I, produced and directed by Efi Spyrou, in October 2021.

The WOMANIFESTO II expanded with 15 more female artists, with the financial support and auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports-Greece, A.G. Leventis Foundation & A.G. Leventis Gallery, Ministry of Justice and Public Order, National Mechanism for Women's Rights Cyprus, Assaf Burstein and producer-director Efi Spyrou, in October 2022.

WOMANIFESTO I features the artists Agata Darlasi, Barbara Roussou, Elena Topalidou, Eftychia Panagiotou, Maro Michalakakos, Maro Fasouli, Myrto Xanthopoulou, Nefeli Sarri, Polina Kremasta, Pavlina Parvin, Rania Bellou, Tonia Tzirita Zacharatou, Maria Yiayiannou, Chrisa Valsamaki and Efi Spyrou.

WOMANIFESTO II features the artists Artemis Panagiotidou, Eleftheria Kazana, Enact theatre [Elena Kallinikou & Marina Makri], Eri Dimitriadi, Eleni Panouklia, Ioanna Paraskevopoulou, Lia Haraki, Maria Papapostolou, Maria Papafigou, Maria Siorba, Natasa Biza, Naya T. Karacosta, Stavroula Siamou and Tamar Raban.

The long-term goal is for this project to act as an invitation and a challenge so that it can be expanded with the addition of contributors from all over the world thereby ensuring that the dialogue transcends borders and become the first mosaic film-manifesto of today’s women artistic voices.
